| Love Isn't Enough: 5 Reasons Why Same-Sex Marriage Will Harm Children
OPINION, Oct. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following comments are submitted by Trayce Hansen, Ph.D.:Proponents of same-sex marriage believe the only thing children really need is love. Based on that supposition, they conclude it's just as good for children to be raised by loving parents of the same sex, as it is to be raised by loving parents of the opposite sex. Unfortunately, that basic assumption--and all that flows from it--isn't true. Because love isn't enough! All else being equal, children do best in a home headed by a married mother and father. It's within this environment that children are most likely to be exposed to the emotional and psychological experiences they need in order to thrive.Men and women bring diversity to parenting; each makes unique contributions that can't be replicated by the other.
FAMILY HELPLINE: Be true to yourself when naming baby
Being a parent means making the tough calls. While there will always be advisers with strong opinions, ultimately you and your partner are responsible for the decisions. Family naming traditions are creating conflict when harmony is what's best for the health of you and the baby and your relationship with your partner. Set aside what others want. You and your partner choose your top three or four picks and compare notes. How can you combine your lists to come up with a name you can both accept? Avoid creating names that will be difficult to pronounce or spell. Say names out loud. Print the names; write the names. Look at the initials. Avoid seeking family counsel or approval for the name you ultimately choose. Your child will be loved by both sets of grandparents no matter what you decide.
Buck & New Dawg: Did the Cowboys choke it all away?
Sometimes, you must treat players like dogs. BUCK: A team owner can do pretty much whatever he wants, but Jerry will not change his mind. Bringing back Wade is absolutely the right thing to do. It spells good karma going into camp next summer. Are the Rangers justified in raising ticket prices for the third year in a row? NEW DAWG: Rangers owner Tom Hicks is so lost when it comes to relating to his fans. I wish he would sell the team. BUCK: Hard to disagree with you here, Dawg. The right PR moves can still be made once the season begins: Special discounts, giveaways ... Bring-Your-Own-Pitcher Night. Joakim Noahs Chicago Bulls teammates banded together to bench him an extra game for conduct detrimental to the team. Is this appropriate action or vigilante justice? NEW DAWG: Noah is kind of a goofball.
